— In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Albuquerque City Council will forgo their regular Monday meeting for one on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. The short agenda has several items sure to draw people to speak out:
- Approval to apply for $300,000 in state grant funding to help the city’s crime lab process a backlog of DNA evidence
- Three appointments to the troubled Police Oversight Commission that should generate lively discussion among members of the public and Council
- Consideration of a legislative priority wish list to send to lawmakers at the state capitol
- Establishing boundaries for the Near North Valley Sector Development Plan and setting a timeline so residents know what to expect
- Amending the Accountability in Government Ordinance so that two-thirds of the Council can vote to remove the city’s internal auditor and/or inspector general
- A five-year transportation plan with the Mid-Region Council of Governments
